BIODIVERSITY PARK, RPCAU, Pusa

The Biodiversity Park, RPCAU, Pusa has been established with primary objective to conserve the native flora and fauna of Bihar and to impart education and awareness about the need of environmental conservation. The park was inaugurated on 01st June, 2022 with a spread over 7.5 ha area within the campus of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Samastipur-848125, Bihar along with the creation of several components as follows:

VIP PlantationBlock

Several endangered and rare tree species were planted by various dignitaries and visitors (Adansonia digitata, Schleichera oleosa, Pterocarpus santalinus, Quercus serrata, Elaeocarpus grandiflorus, Aquilaria agallocha, etc.)

Cactus House

More than 90 species of cacti have been collected and grown.

Rose Garden

More than 50 different colour varieties of roses are grown

04.

Lawn Garden

A spacious lawn with fountain in the centre and various seasonal flowers on the boundaries maintained to add beauty to the park.

Natural Forest Tree Species Block

More than 80 species of trees have been collected and planted.

06.

Cane Block

Several plants of cane (Rattan) are planted to diversify the plant community in the park.

07.

Aquatic Ponds

Four ponds are managed separately for Tilapia fish family, Integrated duck rearing, Aquatic plants, and Recreational and fish rearing

Un-conventional Fruits Block

Various fruit tree uncommon to the region are being planted including, Apple, Pear, Star fruit Apricot, Avocado, etc.

Medicinal Trees Block

Various trees of significant medicinal uses including Neem, Moringa, Arjun, Parkia, Bitter Leaf, Indian Olive, etc. are being planted.

Cultural Vans Block

Several culturally and religiously important trees associated under different groups are planted in distinct blocks as: Navgraha Van, Saptharishi Van, Panch Pallav Van, Panchvati Van, Trithankkar Van, Nakshatra Van, Shree-Parni Van, Rashi Van, Shiv Panchat Van etc.

11.

Nursery Block

An area is set aside for the cultivation and production of different planting materials required for the park. Besides, it aims to produce several other plants of medicinal and economic importance.  

12.

Bambusetum

More than 65 species of bamboo are collected and planted in this block to serve as mother plants for further propagation.

13.

Butterfly Garden

A separate garden is also developed as a component of the Park where various nectar and host plants for several local butterfly species are grown
